TalkMany interactions between stakeholders in a project are intercultural. Scholars like Larson and Gray (2011, pp.533) opine that project teams that consist of employees from different countries and cultures can be referred to as global project teams. Today’s project management professionals frequently lead or work within global project teams either on-ground, virtually or internationally. This talk explores some of the key issues and success factors that ensure effective leadership and successful projects. Some of the issues that would be explored would include: [1] The importance of culture when managing projects-on the ground, virtually and internationally. [2] How to effectively lead, work within or effectively negotiate across cultures. [3] Understanding cross-cultural communication styles-verbal, non-verbal and virtual. [4] How to develop cultural awareness, fluency and intelligence. [5] Understanding the concept of national cultures and how-to transverse the land-mines. Woods
South Carolina native and USC graduate. Jeff moved to Herat, Afghanistan in 2004 where he co-founded the Institute for Leadership Development (ILD). From there he established leadership schools in 5 other locations around the country. From 7 students in 2006, the school has graduated 600+ leaders, among them many Fulbright scholars. In 2016, he founded the Global Leadership International (GLI). The organization now uses the various languages of multiple ethnic communities to transfer the basic leadership model to the next generation. His latest initiative is the Global Medical Partners-Kabul (GMPK), an organization focused on bringing cancer treatment and business development to the war-torn country of Afghanistan. Alumni of his programs are now involved in establishing and promoting leadership and business development throughout countries in Central Asia and the Middle East.
